Star Trails at Blue Mound State Park
This was taken as mostly a lark while my telescope and I worked on the “real” image. That’s me with the red headlamp bouncing around. As it happens, I like this shot a lot better than whatever the deep-sky target was! This was a whole slew of 30” exposures, all composited in Photoshop using the “maximum” stacking mode so the individual star streak combine. Note the bright dot of Polaris near — but not at! — the very center of the circle. The “North Star” is actually a bit less than 1° away from the Celestial Pole.
