Elephant’s Trunk Nebula in SHO (Hubble) Palette
IC 1396, known as the Elephant’s Trunk Nebula for obvious reasons, is a star-forming region with dust and gas being blown around as the stars form. I took this image over two nights at the Yanna Research Station with my 8” Richey-Chrétien scope; this false-color image maps sulfur to red, hydrogen to green, and oxygen to blue.
